Matthew Hunt Fishing Services generally departs from the boat ramp listed,you will be advised at time of booking if it is to be from an alternate boat ramp. Matthew Hunt Fishing Services is a mobile unit and will depart from the closest port to where the best fishing is. In previous seasons Matthew Hunt Fishing Services has departed from Port Fairy and Apollo Bay when targeting the larger Southern Blue Fin Tuna. Each season sees the schools position themselves at various points off shore, many times they are located out at the continental shelf, and this is where the larger 'barrels' generally gather. When booking your trip make sure your Skipper is fully qualified to fish in these areas. The Skipper will require a Master 5 & MED 3 certificate and boat must hold off shore survey.

Matthew Hunt holds both of these certificates and MV Reggie holds required off shore survey.

WHAT TO BRING ALONG ON ALL CHARTERS

To make your trip more enjoyable we suggest that you bring along wet weather gear and footwear, sunglasses, warm hat, any food/drink you may require while on trip, camera and all Anglers must have a current Victorian Fishing Licence(unless exempt).

At the end of each charter Matthew and his Deckhand will prepare and fillet your fish to take home, you will need to have an esky in your vehicle to keep fillets cold for the trip home.

All quality fishing gear is supplied, however if you wish to bring along your own, you are welcome to, please advise prior to charter so that we dont over stock boat with fishing gear.

Mako sharks are renowned for their incredible display when being hooked. If you ever want an adrenalin rush, come Mako fishing! We target these majestic creatures just prior to the influx of Southern Blue Fin Tuna.

MAHI MAHI - DOLPHIN FISH

Currently caught as a by-catch while targeting the Southern Blue Fin Tuna. They are found on the shelf off Portland, and are becoming are more regular catch as time goes on. There have been scientific studies done recently that suggest that as the south east waters warm up over the next few season, MAHI MAHI will be in great numbers off Portland. MAHI MAHI by-catches should increase over the coming seasons.
