SNAPPER

Port Phillip Bay is where most of our snapper fishing is done. The bays see a new run of snapper around September which sees good fishing up until the time is right for them to spawn anywhere from the end of November in to January . Our charters at this time of year are structured to be out at the best times to hook a snapper. first and last light and generally a tide change is fished most charters. We fish all over the bay depending on reports received. Snapper are a top fighting fish and are well deserved of their almost cult following in Victoria. We also find trophy snapper at Western Port , Port Welshpool and Port Albert in the east and anywhere from the Port Phillip Heads to Portland on the West coast. After the hype of the Port Phillip season calms down, we seek other areas that hold snapper both in the Bays and offshore which saw us still catching reds in May , June and July this year.

KING GEORGE WHITING

Possibly the best eating fish in Victoria and also a great fight for their size. Available all year round and definitely worth a crack at. We see them available right around both bays and the entire Victorian Coast in different places at different times so check with Matt for the latest info.

Matt Nice Pants!

AUSTRALIAN SALMON

Good eating when bled and fresh and good for fish patties. Top sports fish, they are a smaller blue green version of a kingfish available on both bait and lures, including soft plastics. Salmon are available in both bays and the entire coastline of Victoria. Salmon are also one of the better baits to use while fishing Victorian waters.

ELEPHANT FISH

Most common in Western Port between the end of Feb and April and also found in Port Phillip Bay and Offshore at times. They offer a good fight and are nice eating if handled correctly. Good numbers are most frequent out of the Western Port fishery compared to elsewhere in Victoria. We have been in the game long enough to remember the times before they frequented our waters in such numbers.

WAREHOU (SNOTTIE) TREVALLA

Quite common in the warmer months after Christmas. The Warehou are found in out of the way rugged spots along the Victorian coast from the Knobbies to Portland. Shallow reefs and plenty of burley are the recipe for snotties ,highly regarded in both fight and taste, the warehou is a prized catch in Victoria.

MULLOWAY

Corinella is the hot spot for these fish and we have caught them there but they too are available at Portland and surrounding waters. Barwon Heads can also produce in the right conditions, so if your keen let me know and lets make it happen. One of the best in regards to fight and if over 8kg one of the best eating fish available. Night time is often the best time for these beauties.

GUMMY SHARK

The gummy shark has to be one of the top targeted species of recent times in Western Port and is available most of the year. The bigger females can be caught in three or four different months of the year and we will let you know if they’re around when you book. They are not restricted to Western Port, as Port Phillip has its own stock of gummies found in different sizes and locations throughout the year along with Port Welshpool & Portland where we find plenty of trophy size specimens.

MAKO SHARK

What can I say! The bad boy of Victorian Sharks puts on a great fight and can grow beyond 400 kilos. They deserve the ultimate respect even if only 20 kg. They can be cunning, smart and dangerous and are found in offshore waters all across Victoria in the warmer months. We have the experience and tackle to handle these great sharks. The West Coast is known for excellent shark fishing March till May, Christmas can be good too.

SOUTHERN BLUEFIN TUNA

Wow! What a fish! The pinnicle of what Victoria has to offer. I am sure you have heard of them by now. Fish from 8kilo to 130 kilo taken in the last 2 seasons. WORLD CLASS tuna fishing available at Portland from April to August each year. Once you see leaping feeding tuna of all sizes you will be hooked like us.

DEEP SEA BOTTOM FISHING

This is available in the fish rich waters off the West coast once again, and is done mainly when the tuna are quiet. For a couple of hours in a fishing day it can be a real mixed bag with some quality table fish available. It can be hard work too, which is the same every time a long heavy winds up, but more often than not its worth it. We use 2 speed reels and braid when doing this kind of fishing and quite often are limited to 1 or 2 rods, as if you tangle at these depths we would be cutting off over 100 meter tangles each time. We find 1 or 2 rods ample once the baits are over, as double hook ups are the norm when the fish are on. The amount of different species encountered is quite amazing and most of them are good eating and high in omega 3 because of the depth they of water they live in.
